Round 1, March 10-11, 2012
Andrew was excited to get back to racing at Chuckwalla and he was not alone as CVMA had a record turnout for round 1. He used Friday practice hosted by Trackdaz to get up to speed and ready for the weekend. Andrew’s first race just happened to be the last race of the day when the sun was going down. Andrew mounted on his West Coast GP Cycles-TrackDaz-CT Racing/Pirelli shod SV650 struggled a little as the light grew dim, but he rode well to a solid 5th place finish. On Sunday Andrew came out ready to race in full daylight and brought home 2nd in Formula Twins and 3rd in Lightweight Shootout.
Round 2, April 21-22, 2012
The weather report was for abnormally high heat and mother nature really delivered with all 3 days posting 100+ degree temperatures. Determined to better his results from the previous round Andrew took to his West Coast GP Cycles-TrackDaz-CT Racing/Pirelli shod SV650 and finished on the podium in all 6 of his races over the weekend all on one set of Pirelli tires. After the races Andrew commented, “I’m really happy with my riding this weekend. The bike worked great and the tires were amazing! I only felt them going off a little in the last race of the weekend.”
Round 3, May 26-27, 2012
Luckily after surviving the hot temps in April the weather was perfect for racing with temps in the high 80s and low 90s. Andrew’s first race on Saturday was Formula 2. He got a great start from the second row on his West Coat GP Cycles-TrackDaz-CT Racing/Pirelli shod SV650, but faded back to 6th by the end of the race. It turned out to be motor problems so the team quickly prepped the B bike. Determined to get back to the front Andrew got the holeshot in Formula Twins with a harrowing move on the inside of 3 bikes in turn 1. Andrew quickly gapped the field, but a red flag forced a restart. Gridded in his original position, Andrew once again shot off the front and ran to the checkered flag for his first win of the season. Sunday was more of the same with Andrew getting the holeshot in all 3 races. In Formula 2 Andrew rode well to finish second and then put on riding clinics in the Lightweight Shootout and Formula Twins going flag to flag for the win in both classes. “I really want to thank Andy and Omar for all their hard work this weekend. They didn’t stop until I had a solid bike that could compete at the front and it felt great to bring home three wins after all their hard work. The Pirelli’s were awesome even in the last race” said Andrew at the end of the day.
Andrew’s next race is CVMA Round 4 September 22-23 at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway. During the summer months Andrew will be doing trackdays on his West Coast GP Cycles-TrackDaz-CT Racing/Pirelli shod Yamaha R6.
